Squeak 3.7
Squeak 3.7 uses the 3.6-3 virtual machine, which is the one that comes with Squeak 3.6.
If you already have Squeak 3.6, download and unpack Squeak3.7-5989-full.zip: This gives you Squeak3.7-5989-full.image and Squeak3.7-5989-full.changes. If you unpack into the default Squeak installation location (/usr/local/share/squeak on my FreeBSD machine) then you can simply run 'inisqueak' and choose the 3.7 image, as seen from the following transcript:
~/pkg/squeak37$ inisqueak
No default image, looking for alternatives...
I found the following images:
1 Squeak3.6-5429-full
2 Squeak3.7-5989-full
(of which I might recommend Squeak3.6-5429, unless you know better).
Which one should I install [1-2]? 2
Installing Squeak3.7-5989-full.image.gz in /usr/local/home/ngps/pkg/squeak37
+ ln -s /usr/local/share/squeak/SqueakV3.sources SqueakV3.sources
+ gunzip -dc /usr/local/share/squeak/Squeak3.7-5989-full.image.gz > squeak.image
+ gunzip -dc /usr/local/share/squeak/Squeak3.7-5989-full.changes.gz > squeak.changes
Running /usr/local/bin/squeak
Alternatively, just put these two files plus SqueakV3.sources in the same directory and invoke the 3.6-3 virtual machine with Squeak3.7-5989-full.image and you get Squeak 3.7.
Ok, the above paragraph might not be clear to people who aren't already familiar with this to begin with. Let's try again: In a directory with the following files, start the Squeak 3.6-3 virtual machine and you'll get Squeak 3.7.
SqueakV3.sources - This is the same for all Squeak v3. squeak.changes - This is Squeak3.7-5989-full.changes. squeak.image - This is Squeak3.7-5989-full.image.
I see more fonts to choose from, including "Accushi" which looks like the Mac font. (Ok, I don't own a Mac and this font looks like the Mac font to my untrained eye. ;-)
Looks even more like a toy.
