Open Source So What?

James Robertson wrote that someone who crashed BottomFeeder while importing 5000+ feeds assumed it was due to the spawning of that many threads. James went on to explain how BottomFeeder works and why OP's trouble was most likely due to memory trashing.

So in this case BottomFeeder's being open source didn't matter because OP didn't UTS to find out where the problem was.

OTOH, open source means James's explanation can be verified, if anyone cares.

It's a wash, I suppose.
